Fearless Fun Friday: Summer-Time Adjectives…

I sit in the cockpit of my boat as the last of the sun’s rays touch the harbor water, making all around me sparkle.  I allow the sunlight to touch my skin, each ray adding joy to my heart; I literally bask in the Light….

I bought myself a present..a delicate copper wind chime with a fairy figure sitting on a colored glass orb surrounded by copper daisies…I feel a kindred connection with her..my  Spirit feels I am the fairy…I tell you about this present because it is yet another treasure that ‘does not belong on my boat’ yet the Energy on my boat has shifted to include this new treasure, this physical expression of my inner self. I want her to reflect beauty, so I clean all of the surfaces around her..simplicity is key especially when adding frivolous to the mix.  A gentle wind pushes the harbor water against the hull of the boat making lapping sounds, so if I close my eyes and let the sun hit me and listen to the water, the chimes, and feel the wind on my face I *am* bliss personified…

I think of Summer.  In this bliss filled state Summer is my favorite.  Truly, all seasons are my favorite when I am in them, but as I write this today,  I am in love with Summer who has just entered and will settle in for a bit.  I think: quick name five adjectives that best describe Summer:

  • Warmth: Ah, warmth..Of sunlight. Of friendships. Of days full of Summer Light–hours of play. Of the barbeque grill. Of the pool (it’s heated). Of the inner space of my boat as we come and go, come and go all summer long.  From the heat of sparklers in Fourth of July fun.  Of bonfires on the beach.  Of my smile which radiates because I am truly happy surrounded by such delight!
  • Light.  The Light of the day as there are more daylight hours for us to play in.  The Light of my friend’s smiles as we welcome each other for yet another gathering around the pool, the water park, the barbecue.  The Lights on top of the mast of the boat shining in the dark as I am anchored at the islands.  The Light of the moon shining through my v-berth hatch as I sleep.  The Light of those around me as they participate in activities that make their hearts overflow with joy and love.

  • Food..Need  I say more???  S’mores (oh yeah!!), barbecues of all sorts, pot luck dinners by the pool, popsicle, ice cream, food from the local fair in August, fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmer’s market, delicious peaches solo or baked in pie (double oh yeah!), birthday cake, watermelon, berries…an assortment of food.  Picnics at the park, picnics on the kayak, picnics on the hiking trails…Food.
  • Skin.  I love skin.  My skin and yours. I love when the elements touch my skin..sunlight, water, air.  I love to wear my bathing suit, my shorts, my sundresses.  I love to be barefoot.  I love painted toenails and toe rings and anklets.  I love walking the pier and watching the runners, the people in bathing suits, the volleyball players, the guys playing basketball with no shirts :)….love it all.  I think close to naked is as close to authentic as some people get, and I love authentic…
  • Vibrant colors.  Color my world!  Sunlight colors everything.  Moonlight colors the rest.  Fireworks color the sky.  Colorful summer clothes and bathing suits and sundresses.  Color on my skin.  Color in my hair.  My Summer food is brightly colored.  Radiant, beauty filled colors.

Summer to me is variety..so to get us all in the mood for Summer..I asked a few fellow blog authors to submit their answers to the question: “What are five adjectives that describe Summer to you?”  *Thank you* to the following guests for contributing!  Please check out their websites where you will find inspiration and delight…..

Evita Ochel from Evolving Beings:

Outdoorsy – Relaxing – Serene – Pleasurable – Rejuvenating

The summer heat to me is nature’s way of expressing her passion. I love the warm and hot weather, as it allows me to do what I find very pleasurable – spending time outdoors in nature, with much of my bare skin being able to absorb the sun’s rejuvenating rays. From swimming to hiking, from canoeing to just relaxing on a hammock under the rustling leaves of a beautiful summer breeze. There is my serene landscape of life expressing itself – with me in it.

Simon Hay from Simon Hay Soul Healer:

Summers in Australia are hot, and the best time of day is early in the morning. This is the time for reflection, to sit still, and appreciate nature. It’s more productive to work in the mornings and evenings, so summer is the time for routine and scheduling.

The hottest days encourage us to be sensible: hydrate, relax, and be mindful of the welfare of pets and the elderly. They’re also opportunities to be spontaneous and spend time with family and friends, swimming and entertaining.

Summer storms and bush fires remind me to respect this sun burnt land. These disasters allow me to be generous and compassionate to neighbours in need. Summer is beautiful and unpredictable and the season to strengthen patience.

Heat flows through me as healing energy and passion.

I’m respectful of this beautiful country.

Water is precious and essential to life, and I’m grateful for this gift.

I’ve tolerance for all men.

I remember how to have fun.

I love you Summer.

Jamie Ridler from Jamie Ridler Studios:

Thank you for inviting me to think about summer. Here’s my response:

Summer is slowlazyjuicyhotfree

This summer I’m slowing down, taking time to breathe and to get my house in order with a calm, relaxed focus and deep appreciation.

Tess Marshall from The Bold Life:

Five words that I feel best describe summer:

Travel, fun, flip flops, Farmer’s Market, sun.

My childhood summers were spent working on our 88-acre family farm. We spent hours in nature planting, weeding and picking fruits and vegetables from sun up until sun down. The days we weren’t in the fields we were at the Farmer’s Market selling our produce. I used to dream of the days I would travel, plan picnics, go to the beach and shop at the Farmer’s Market like the customers I served. I promised myself some day I would…

Today, I spend summer traveling, planning fun times and shopping at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. I exercise before the sun rises in Arizona where it can reach 120 degrees. I love living in flip flops, t-shirts and shorts enjoying my watermelon-seed-spitting summer;)

“Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.” Ada Louise Huxtable

So, what is fearless about five summer time adjectives?  Thank you for asking.  Fearless is allowing your heart to speak, to embrace passion…in my case when I share my five adjectives with you I am in essence saying *this* is what I truly love…makes me vulnerable and I’ll have to be awfully fearless to embrace it all..

Of course, the closing question to you then is: What are five adjectives that describe Summer to you??

And, this *moonbeam* would like to remind you to please take time to look at and perhaps celebrate the full moon this weekend…Marvel in the beauty and the Energy..let it fill your heart…

Much peace,

Joy

    Joy,
This is so fun! I love your photos and your new toy! I need to come back to the water’s edge for a visit! Oh my it’s going to be 110 here today. I’ve had my coffee outside with my journal and favorite music and now I’ll be in for most of the day. We hiked in Sedona last weekend to beat the heat and I see it’ll be 98 there this weekend. We may go further into the mountains.

I linked to you today and wrote about summer as well. I’m so happy you’re in my life. xo

This is so beautiful! I loved reading all the lovely contributions. Thanks, everyone!

You know, summer is an interesting time for me right now. For my entire life I’ve either been a student or a teacher, so summer has always meant time off. I’ve lived with the rhythm of the schoolyear calendar since kindergarten – 26 years. But now, having left my teaching career and launching into a new career full-time, summer is taking on new meaning to me. I’m seeing it with fresh eyes. And I don’t quite have the words to articulate all I’m feeling. It’s exciting, and scary, and utterly fascinating.

    XXOO!

    • #4 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 8:53 pm

      Hi Joy,
      It’s Joy (couldn’t resist–LOL!)…
I’m so glad to see you here! I think this Summer for you is symbolic of fresh, new, of freedom, of joy, of adventure– for surely all that you are currently embracing is that and more. I’m excited to watch as all of these new paths are unfolding for you….you have amazing Enegy..and that you used fascinating in your decription shows me how inspirational your journey will be for us all….

  3. #5 by Lisa@Practically Intuitive on June 25, 2010 - 3:43 pm

I love your fairy wind chime! It makes me happy just to look at it. That’s one of the things I am working on with stuff around my house – I ask “Does this make me HAPPY! when I see it?” If not, it might need to find a new home.

What summer means to me: slow days at work, watching people splashing in my pool, cookouts, crabs (MMM!) and beer, watching my tomatoes grow. I’m not a fan of heat but I can deal. (Better that than snow, say I!)

Lovely, lovely post. Have a wonderful weekend.

    • #6 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:00 pm

      Hi Lisa,
I love listening to my new windchime..and the sunlight hits the glass orb just so…I’ve noticed a subtle change in the Energy on the boat..and my heart feels a bit lighter…
I have little living space on the boat..and I believe in clean, open space to allow for the flow of Energy, so what the children and I do have on the boat is materially not much, but to our hearts is the world …we each have little treasures placed just so around the boat, and those few small things are what brings us the most joy….Huge life lesson for me as well because I can expand that to include my food choices, my friendship choices, any choice…
I love your summer adjectives..May you experience abundant joy with these and all else joy filled within these summer days!

  4. #7 by Evita on June 25, 2010 - 3:53 pm

    Hi Joy

Oh this turned out so nice 🙂

I LOVE your new gift for yourself. I have a deep and very special affinity for fairies… I see so many dragonflies where we are….almost every color, and there is this one, that sparkles as it flies around like pure silver. As soon as I saw her, I felt “fairy energy” – whose to say it can’t be possible? Maybe we choose not to see them for what they are, so they come disguised in many ways. My love for dragonflies seems to grow infinitely from the past few years. I feel such a treasure should one of them choose to sit on me. They are so beautiful!

It was great to read the beautiful contributions… summer is such an awesome time of the year, and as I sit here I treasure every single one of its moments.

Thank you for doing this wonderful and fun post 🙂

    Happy Summer 😀

      Hi Evita,
      Thank you!
I very infrequently buy gifts for myself..but I’ve decided to treat myself as I would others…I am celebrating a milestone, so I wanted something physical to symbolize it for me…
As for fairies…I love fairy land…my children and I are enthralled with all things fairy….I’ve heard dragonflies symbolize good luck..I like your theory just as much..imagination and playfulness…
You brought up a point I didn’t include here in words, but is always in my heart…gratitude…for each and every moment. I am most thankful for All in my life….
      Happy Summer indeed:)

  5. #9 by Wilma Ham on June 25, 2010 - 7:37 pm

Summer for me means emerging myself in water.
Letting my body ride the waves and feel the caress of the water.
Swimming in the river and being in paradise with the surrounding bush so green and beautiful.
    Showers to cool off.
Children in their little paddling pools in gardens.
Soft warm rain on my face.
    I adore summer. XOX Wilma

    • #10 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:08 pm

      Hi Wilma,
Mmmm..wonderful summer time reflections!!!! A fellow water spirit…:) One of my favorite activities is to jump off the stern of the boat into the ocean..quite cold water temperature, but oh so purifying, refreshing to my soul and loving on my skin….
May summer bring to you all that your heart desires–perhaps you shall find your Eden…:)

  6. #11 by Megan "JoyGirl!" Bord on June 26, 2010 - 1:18 am

Hmm, the post and the comments were all so great… And when I reached Evita’s comment I thought, “That’s such a great one!” So I’d like to second it, and from now on, when I see dragonflies, I’m going to think “fairies.” (smile)

    • #12 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:09 pm

      Megan,
I second all of the comments!!! Think perhaps I shall have to increase my Summer time fun quotient to include far more than my vision has allowed for…..

  7. #13 by thelanceman on June 26, 2010 - 2:51 am

    Joy,
Summer is a wonderful time of year! …just as each season has that special quality…

What fun to read what summer means!

I think of lazy days, warmth, extra laughter, late nights, and outdoors…

    • #14 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:10 pm

      Hi Lance,
Lazy days…love those!!! When all of my work is done, the boat is clean, the children running around on the dock with their friends..I set up the hammock and lounge in the sun..walk to the pool to swim…just sit and bask in the glory of the harbor…going to add that to my ever growing “list”!

  8. #15 by Chania Girl on June 26, 2010 - 6:08 am

I love this post, Joy. Such a treat to stop by here … which is why I try to stop by, even when I can’t get anywhere else!

My five summertime adjectives are these: of the sea, ease-y, fresh, affluent (in the truest sense of “fluent” = being in flow), capricious.

    • #16 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:12 pm

      Hi Carla,
I love when you stop by!!!
Treats…going to add that to my list too! Your summertime adjectives bring me to a peace filled place…I can envision you there..may summer bring to you all that you express here and much more:)

  9. #17 by Simon Hay on June 26, 2010 - 1:24 pm

Joy, this was fun. And I love skin! What a yummy summer word. This – I think close to naked is as close to authentic as some people get, and I love authentic – I love! Hang on, I’m having trouble with these buttons . . . there we go. Ooooh, it’s a bit breezy. Talk soon, Simon.

    • #18 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:21 pm

      Hi Simon,
Lol…I got distracted with your buttons:)
Seriously, here in this season, we boaters pretty much live in our bathing suits…I happen to love the summer sun on my skin as I complete my boat chores, hike, participate in water or beach activities, lounge around..so I like bathing suits and summer clothes..However, I know people who cannot stand summer clothes…some who choose to be more reclusive during this time because they are concerned about body image and I know others who wish they could ‘cover up’ and don’t like nakedness..that is why I love skin..can’t hide really, you are who you are and *that* is who I want to connect with Being to Being…
As for body consciousness..we are given human bodies while on Earth and they are magnificent vehicles…I choose to celebrate all that is good about the vehicle I’ve been given rather than bash it, misuse it, or ignore it…

  10. #19 by Tony Single on June 26, 2010 - 1:25 pm

Joy, I have one thing to ask you… is your new wind chime really just a bit of frivolity? 😛

I say this because if it facilitates all that wonderful joy (there’s that name again!) and lovely baskiness (yes, I know it’s not a word but I like the sound of it!), then it’s hardly frivolous. It has much more meaning than that! 🙂

Okay, semi serious lecture over. I’ll be good now. Thanks so much for sharing. 😛

    • #20 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 26, 2010 - 9:25 pm

      Hi Tony,
I love when you visit..you make me smile this big huge smile each time…thank you for that!!!
Thank you for the insight “lecture” (*grin*) My wind chime is frivolous only because others say it is so….but to me it is joy filled and a perfect reflection of all that I embrace in life…
I love baskiness…perhaps that shall be my new favorite word:)

  11. #21 by Talon on June 26, 2010 - 5:21 pm

    The windchime is lovely!

Summer is in a bit of a snit here lately. She’s moody, chilly, weepy, distracted, and bewitching.

      Talon,
      Thank you!
Oooh…sounds like Summer is in a cycle..quite all right because something beauty filled is right around the corner after all of those adjectives..and “bewitching” I *love* it…

Hi Joy .. love and light .. your wind chime sounds delightful … I have prisms hanging by my windows – so I get coloured rainbows through when the sun shines .. I’ve always loved prisms.

Summer – tennis, roses, sweet peas, new fresh vegetables, strawberries and raspberries with Cornish cream preferably .. & soft meringues sometimes! Long long evenings .. picnics ..

    Great to see .. Hilary

    • #26 by unfoldingyourpathtojoy on June 28, 2010 - 7:22 am

      Hi Hilary,
Prisms are beautiful! I love the array of colors they cast when the light hits just so. As I write that I think aren’t we all like prisms..casting beautiful arrays of color when the Light hits just so….
Your Summer words sound refreshing and fun…well except for tennis which is fun but I’m not sure about refreshing LOL!!
Long evenings and picnics sound absolutely Divine..wow, my Summertime fun list is evergrowing after this post!!!

    Summer –
As you posted this I was out enjoying a last “girl’s day” of summer with my daughter.
For me summer is adventurous, uplifting, gentle breezes, laughter, mangos and strawberries and peaches…
It is discovering the new in the everyday as well as the new itself.
Because summer means no school – it also means a break in the schedule and a chance to spread wings and fly in directions that the school year might not allow.
I love this post Joy – and oh how I would love a wind chime – I miss them
