Hi…thank you for joining me today!
Last night the children and I walked off the boat, hands full of towels and toiletries to shower before bed. We shower at public marina facilities a short distance from our boat–close enough to walk to, yet far enough away it can be a chore.
Right when we stepped off the boat, I noticed the almost full moon hovering overhead.. I stopped right there to gaze at the moon.
While looking at the moon peeking between clouds, we heard a sound behind us..very close..in the water…almost like something expelling air…
It was quite dark outside, the water was still, the fish were jumping, but this noise was different from the ‘plunk’ of the jumping fish..
So, in the darkness we all three turned almost as a group and let our eyes scan the water..we could see rings on the water’s surface and feel the movement of current lapping against the floating dock we were standing on..
We were calm, yet very curious…very quiet, patiently waiting for ‘it’ to resurface. As we stood on the dock, the boat slips on either side were empty, so whatever it was could appear in front or on either side of us..that close!
My feet rooted to the concrete of the dock, I turned to see a shiny flipper cutting through the water..just a few feet from where I was standing..and then more rings as if whatever it was surfaced then dove down below..
I stood.. transfixed..
Was it a dolphin? A shark? A harbor seal? Again the sound of expelling air and a fin..ever so close.. I wondered if it would come up to the dock..and we all promised in pretty much the same breath that if we were afraid we wouldn’t accidentally push the other into the water..
So close..
Eventually it surfaced and ‘it” turned out to be two harbor seals playing together in the finger by our boat..so close we could touch them…Alternately thrilled, yet a bit afraid..we stood there watching..inching closer, then they’d come close to us, we’d all inch back..
Neighbors across the way came out..people walking on the sidewalk outside of our gate stopped to look..we all stood there. The others left, but the kids and I stood there delighted with this play. They played for a good twenty minutes..each time they surfaced we would exclaim excitedly..and then quietly watch them swim and dive…
We absolutely needed to shower to go to bed..yet, when one neighbor called across the way he was disappointed they were not dolphins so went back in..my heart said..who gets this magical display…*We* do! So, we took the time to watch and experience…showers and bed forgotten as we let the magic of the moment encircle us and touch us..
How often is magic purposely/perfectly placed within my life..and do I take the time to receive it gratefully, to experience the full delight…
Or do I rush about my day, eyes down scanning for who knows what, intent on my busyness, missing all that the Universe is asking me to see….
My choice..always..the magic is there ready and waiting..it is my choice to be Aware and to be Open to receiving..
I choose to be aware and open..to take the time..because the time is *now*…
I teach my children to take the time..because the time is *now*..and then to give praise for it..
So, our showers were quick, and we had to forgo our nightly reading..
But man oh man, we saw two harbor seals frolic and swim..right there..
The children are tucked in..with thoughts of harbor seals swimming and playing in their backyard..
Who gets that? In the midst of questioning how I shall move forward with my boating life, I am receiving abundant magic..
I think the Universe Knows..and is Asking me to see..
The Moon knows..that’s for sure…
The Answers aren’t “out there” for me to seek, search, stumble upon…The Answers are right here..always..waiting for me to be quiet and observant enough to notice..
Please share with me what magic was in your day…
Much peace,
Joy

It really was awesome, wasn’t it? I was down at the park where i watched them play for about an hour. Such beautiful, magical creatures….
Symbols of playfulness, creativity, intuition, and carefree relaxation. Gentle reminders that life is meant to be enjoyed, that playing is what it’s all about. It was way awesome of them to stop by and give us that message. I, for one, appreciated it most lovingly. I’m glad you all did, too.

Hi Joy .. you are so mindful of the kids and their futures .. giving them this amazing family background now – it’d be wonderful if parents could be like you. The kids will have so many happy memory times of their growing up .. Lovely, lovely story .. yes every moment and every tiny mite of life has something to show us. Thanks – lovely to read at the start of my day .. Hilary

Hi Jay,
It was awesome for the children and I because they were right at our doorstep…literally…
When I allow life to get too busy..many times the Universe delivers the most precious gift of delight right to me..
Significant in my life because in the last few weeks, the Universe has allowed my biggest life dreams to be realized..and I see now that I’ve been resistant of that..
Time to walk my talk and embrace all I know to be true..
I choose to celebrate the beauty filled gifts in my life..
Hi Hilary,
Thank you for stopping in:) Thank you for your kind words..
As I read your comment, I think perhaps the children guide me to mindfulness..I allow time to slow while we soak in the magic of all around us..because I love to delight my loved ones, and they are most precious to me..The best gift of love I can give anyone is Time..
Much peace,
Joy

Hi Joy .. yes you’re right in both ways! I’m sure you are more mindful because you’ve got the children with you .. and we perhaps who don’t have children, or have not got children around us any more need to remember to be mindful at certain times and enjoy life – see its fullness.
Also the fact that you say “the best gift of love you can give anyone is Time” .. how true is that? – a wonderfully perceptive statement .. thank you. For the ill, for the elderly, for those that need, and for children at their time of growing ..
Brilliant phrase .. thanks so much – happy days and times and love – Hilary

Hello Joy,
Isn’t it a shame to become so busy with the “stuff” in our life that we neglect to experience the beautiful magic contained in each moment? I do this less these days, but I wish to erase that altogether. Life is “the moment” and that’s really all it ever is. I am so glad that you point that out often, it is so very important. I definitely “get it” Joy and I want to live my life in such a way that I can help others get it too. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing this magical moment.

Hi Joy:
I enjoyed this post and the story that you painted. I could perfectly visualize what you were experiencing. You bring up a great point about living now and noticing the magic that surrounds us. It is sometimes difficult to notice the magic, but like you said, it’s always there. Thanks for your inspiring words.

Joy,
I love that you teach your children to appreciate ALL the magic moments of life. It’s odd about the person who said he wished they were dolphins…I feel envious because I would have loved to see either dolphins or harbor seals play right next to my home on a moonbeam filled night.
Thanks for sharing this story…it made me smile:~)

I just knew I could not read this post when it popped up last night as I was turning off the computer….
I needed the release of sleep and seeing the nearly full moon rise – then the time to finish reading my current book for review…
I just so need to be still today…calm so I can see and hear….and I think I am trying to discover play….
Thank you

Hi Keith,
Thank you:)
I think we live best as we can in the moment we are in..so at any moment we may choose to embrace magic and allow it to touch us in myraid ways..
I love *extraordinary* so I tend to make room for it and to manifest it..
You share magic in many ways Keith..and I celebrate that!
Hi Hilary,
“Time” it is..better to me than jewels, anything my hands can hold, fabulous trips to faraway places…being mindfully present in this moment with me..*that* is the most precious gift..pure magic..
Hi Amy,
Thank you for stopping in..my family misses yours..we’ve been blessed to share many magical moments together..
Hi Tim,
Thank you for visiting..
I think we are so accustomed to not expecting magic that we rarely see it..I allow for magic, so it is plentiful in my life..makes my heart truly happy to share it…
Hi Sara,
*You* are quite magical indeed..with words, photos, creativity..I think you were here in Spirit..
My neighbor is a visitor so maybe our harbor sights were not ‘fabulous” to him..but we sure enjoyed it..
Hi Patricia,
May the power of the moon touch your heart in exactly the places that you wish…
“Still” just like my harbor water was last night..the perfect place for magic–stillness– and today the sunshine is glistening off of the still waters..as it will illuminate your life after you have rested…
Much peace,
Joy

I’m a little late to the party, but I was with my husband down at the water where we sometimes picnic dinner between the time he gets off of work and we have choir practice and we were watching a seal or sea lion (we have both locally and I didn’t get a good look at any truly identifying part) play while waiting for the fishing boats to make their return trips to their slips and thought of this post. Just had to share!
