Hello…and welcome…
I hope you are relaxed as you come to this space..may you enjoy what you read today..
For it is *very* entertaining…
Meredith, from The Enchanted Earth, blessed me with the Beautiful Blogger Award…Thank you, Meredith. I treasure this kindness from Meredith because her blog inspires me creatively. Absolutely magical in many ways….from the photos which are stunning, to her words which are inspiring, to her love of gardens…As you know, I am a butterfly and glitter girl, so my soul appreciates the delight that I find in Meredith’s space..I often wish I could visit one of the gardens, or smell one of the flowers, or soak in the magic of it all..Then I realize *I can* and I do…just by appreciating what Meredith shares…The magic is within, and I love to be reminded of that!
So, for the award, I am to present to you ten random facts that you do not know about me..Since I am in a playful mood, with a most happy heart..I’m wearing a flowing sundress, the sun is shining, the wind is whooshing through the harbor, a scented candle is burning, and I have music playing in the background…I shall share with you ten random things that might surprise you about me…
1. I belly dance…yep…I like to be unique and one day many years ago I was at a taping of a TV show. During the intermission, the host asked for audience members to share unique talents with the audience..This girl stood up and did a few hip shimmies in her street clothes..Well, I was intrigued, and that moment I knew I wanted to learn so I could have a talent that would wow someone…And, boy do I know how to wow:) Took years (I’ve been dancing for nine years now) and is actually excellent exercise. A few years ago, my then boyfriend told me he loved the sword dance…so I learned it..belly dancing with an actual sword that nicked my shoulders until I learned balance…and I am the only one in “my circle” who has an actual silver sword encased in a black velvet sheath to match my hip skirt…And..I am well balanced now *grin*
2. No one likes to play truth or dare with me…Do you know the game? You pick if you’d rather tell a truth or do a dare..usually outrageous for either…Well, I always tell the truth, and I actually enjoy the dare..in either category, the more outrageous the easier it is….
3. I do not have a favorite anything…This perplexes people, but I think it’s easier to understand when you spend time with me. I live mindfully present in this moment..and I live through my senses…so if something delights my senses in that moment it is my favorite. As moments change, my favorites change. I love *this* sun rise when I am looking at it full on, noticing the wisps of colors extending across the canvas of sky, the sun’s rays illuminating the local hilltops…I would say in that moment sunrises are my favorite..and celebrate it fully. Ah, but then the sun rises and is out in full glory..warm, radiant, lighting my world, and I think oh my surely, full sun is my favorite..and so forth..With everything: people, music, food, experiences–a buffet of favorites….
4. Here in butterfly and glitter land (or So Ca.) I love to be as naked as possible when outside because I love the elements on my skin…ha– I told you that I was in a playful mood:) But this is the truth. I love the feel of the warmth of the sun on my skin, the wind gently caressing, water gliding….(raindrops, pool water, ocean water). I love to be in a little sun dress so the elements may love on me..my body glows, my heart soars, my Spirit sings…I sleep with the hatch above my bed open so I may feel the wind and the moonbeams…When I run, I do so at water’s edge, so I may feel the ocean water lapping at my legs, along with the wind and sun…When I sail I wear my bathing suit and board shorts so that I may get ‘sun kisses’ along the way..I thrive in the elements..absolutely…
5. I love to laugh, but more than that I love to make you laugh..your laughter makes my heart so happy…and man, if I can put a twinkle in your eye.. I pretty much soar.. Your smile lights my heart, ah but your laughter is magical to me..even in written words in this space..I will do, say, concoct, perform, delight in whatever way possible to coax your laughter along…I’m all for physical comedy if necessary or an unexpectedly outrageous play with words, or whatever..when you smile, I am happy, when you laugh, I am ecstatic..
6. Along with that..here goes…I love irreverent, off the wall and also dry, sarcastic humor…I love the “Jackass series” I laugh out loud, belly laugh..I know they are a bunch of young ones stoned and drunk, getting paid exorbitant amounts of money to do the inane…but I enjoy it.. And “The Hangover” movie..love it..And many British comedies…And Tony’s humor which isn’t irreverent, off the wall, dry, sarcastic or British..but I love it just the same..thank you Tony:)
7. I am romantic at heart..You would never know this..most people do not…I am busy being the mom of two young ones, captain of my boat, creator of my life…But my heart delights in Love…When you are in love, I listen to your story and soak it in and celebrate it..Love with your significant other, your child, your God, your world, a flower… whatever you are in Love with–I celebrate. I love flowers, dancing in the moonlight, special words, nervousness, candlelight, special dinners, being folded in, beautiful music…One of my favorite movies was “City of Angels” until I saw “Australia”…oh man…Love and beautiful scenery…
8. I love the farmer’s market…my senses enjoy all of it–the smells, the colors, the juiciness, the flavors, the people, all of it..I enjoy walking each aisle sampling everything, then I go back through and make my purchases and often have a picnic with the freshest of ingredients. There is an awesome market about one hour away and I enjoy bringing my friends there. I can spend hours there, just browsing, talking, soaking it all in, tasting…I will know that I am *in love* when my special friend delights in the market as much as I do, and we take our purchases and make something delectable from them…
9. I delight in being the mother of my children…shoot I bet you already know that…I truly believe that God blessed me with two Angels…I know that my role as mom is to guide my children to be independent adults, so I enjoy this time together immensely. Whether we are just occupying the same space, or I am watching them delight in their own space, or we are interacting together…I delight in it…People say that grandchildren are a joy–I think why would I wait for grandchildren when I’ve been blessed with these lovely little ones..who teach me much even as I delight in all that we share…
10. I am an excellent sailor…For a long time, I was content to be the passenger, I didn’t even think about captaining. Then one day my sailing friend asked me why I didn’t captain–it never crossed my mind. My sailing friend is the most knowledgeable in our county–I listened to all that my sailing friend shared–soaked it up like a sponge. I spent every day on different boats out on the ocean. I learned on all levels. I would charter boats to the islands or wherever the clients wanted to go. I joined the local race circuit. I thrived on heavy weather sailing–if the wind was up and the surf was high I was there. I partnered with people who excelled in certain areas so I could learn…I earned a local reputation. Sailing is typically a male sport, so that I’m a female in a stereotypically male world is pretty cool..
An afterthought…. I am exactly as I present myself in these pages…I am a butterfly and glitter girl who sleeps in the moonbeams and basks in sun kisses… I love fully, I live in the moment, I allow my senses to lead, I am thankful for each moment, I am truly interested in your stories…when I say “I love you” I mean it…I dance, I laugh, I play, I sing, I create, I hope, I love, I believe…with my being I believe….
May you share with me one thing I may not know about you? Because I would love to know this about you….
Much peace,
Joy

Joy,
All of these are what makes you…you and why I love you. Glitter, butterflies, motherhood, belly dancing, sailing, loving, loving others, living life and sharing it all with us so freely on your blog. You’re awesome and congratulations on your award. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. xo

Joy,
Wow, this was so, so FUN to read!! You, sweet friend, are an amazing woman!!!
Me? Did you know I went to college and got my degree in engineering?? (what was I thinking back then, anyway??) And – when I was first married, we moved to a different place about every nine months (our families called us gypsies!). Hmmm…I’m having that yearning again….(although it’s probably a bit more complicated now…)
Have lots of fun with those two awesome kiddos of yours!!

Hi Joy,
Congratulations on your award…very well deserved!
It is nice to know more about you and the things that makes you special and an inspiration for all of us.
All the things you mention about you are amazing, but I enjoyed #3 the most: “Do not have a favorite anything” I thing that’s the one that better reflect you and the way you are, and an amazing way of seeing and enjoying life to the fullest, one minute at the time.
Something about me? When a child I admired old car mechanics for their connection with machines, so after many years I learned to detect internal problems in an engine by just softly touching it with my fingers while it is running.

I loved getting to know more about you. Thanks, Meredith, for passing this award on to Joy. 🙂
I had a very good friend who passed away suddenly last year. She was an amazing belly dancer. I miss her spirit so much.
I like that you have no favorite things. That’s neat. Loved learning more about you, Joy. Thank you for sharing.
Something about me? I don’t feel a day is worth a darn if I haven’t had a good laugh (more is always preferable) tucked in it somewhere.

Joy, what a fun list! I think I knew most of those things about you, but not all. The Jackass series surprised me. (smile)
I loved reading other people’s things, too (Lance got an engineering degree?! Awesome!). Alien Ghost’s touched my spirit.
Okay, so something very few people know about me is that despite my hard German “a handshake is just as good as a hug” exterior, I’m actually very sensual and passionate. This really only comes out in romantic relationships (which of course makes sense!).
Also, when I fall in-love, I allow myself to fall completely. While I’m normally very cautious in other areas of my life, that’s the one “pool” I’ll jump into the deep-end of, without thinking.
Big hug to you, and gratitude for your transparency here today!
Megan

Hi Joy, okay, belly dancing, naked, belly dancing, naked . . . sorry what was the post about? I’ve got it! Something about me: I rolled a car two 200m from home when I was 18 and survived without a bruise or scratch. I walked home and hoped into bed in the shearing quarters I was living in at the time. Still surprises me. I fell out of my seatbelt and opened my eyes sitting on the roof interior of the car.

I laughed out loud at the first sentence in Simon’s comment. I couldn’t help it! 😛
Moonbeam, you constantly surprise me. I don’t think I’ve ever struck anyone quite like you. You are deserving of Meredith’s award, and I find it interesting that you don’t play favourites with anyone or anything. Such a great way to be because then everyone gets the love! Thank you for everything you share! 😀

Hi Tess,
Thank you! I was a little worried to present this, because it’s as real as I am..so I appreciate your support:)
I love you too…all that you reflect to me allows me to soar..
Hi Lance,
Guess what? You won’t believe this! I got a full scholarship to major in engineering..although I don’t like math I excel in it..can you imagine me an engineer??? Right..so glad I didn’t jump on that:)
As for your gypsy inclination..this is why I like you so..I think Megan and I were gypsies together, maybe *you* traveled with us:) I do believe your yearning to move is about embracing life, adventure and people..let’s see where new wish takes you..and ‘complicated’ is about perspective..to me ‘complicated’ could be FUN:)
Hi Raul,
I love your talent with engines..I can picture it as the horse whisperer with engines:) Your touch is healing…do you see that?
As for no favorites, it sounds good on paper…in life I find there is always something to delight in and the people around me tend to humor that…However, the bonus to sharing space with me is that delight is 100% part of your world..almost impossible to have a closed heart around me:)
Hi Talon,
Thank you!
That you love laughter explains why your photos are so beauty filled and your words touch hearts…Your heart shall be open to laugh, and that openness shines through all that you share..and *that* makes me celebrate because what you share inspires me so…
Hi Megan,
I’m full of surprises:) And I stand by my love for the ‘Jackass’ series..LOL
I love that you are sensual and passionate..I am too..just as much as I love sun kisses I revel in touch and my heart soars when I am folded in…
Listening to you describe falling in love makes me smile..I shall learn from you my friend..it is the one area I do not jump and am most reticent..but you reflect to me the absolute best..so get ready, I open to falling in love:) Almost impossible not to after listening to your “True Romance” playlist…
Hi Simon,
Way LOL! May you please come back to visit when I have something interesting to say…any wisdom you may have thought I had is now out the window:)
My goal with this post was to show my “human side” the real me…peace filled doesn’t mean stick in the mud, stuck in a box…I am absolutely as real as everyone else…
May I tell you this? Your story gave me goose bumps…my friend was seeing a girl out of town and didn’t feel great about the relationship, yet although he was miserable he kept giving energy to it, just in case…and then he recently rolled his van as he was driving home from a visit, completely rolled it..walked away unharmed although the van is totalled..and I bet you know the ending…since he has no van, he cannot visit the girl, so they broke up and he’s now happy in his heart..the Universe speaks to us in ways we can hear…I’m glad you were unharmed, thank you for sharing:)
Hi Tony,
You make me smile..Absolutely..and thank you Simon for providing laughter:) Told you I’d do outrageous to make you laugh 🙂
Thank you for your comment..the no favorite thing is what the people around me humor, so that my online friends think it’s a bonus makes me want to celebrate…
What an awesome group..much peace…
Joy

Dearest Joy,
Feeling the sun on skin is so refreshing indeed.
Your Farmer’s Market description brought my love for those places front and center in my senses. They are little communities bursting with all great things. And I like how that tied in with Meredith’s current post about non-pesticide and local gardening. What a great award and such interesting responses from you!
Happy belly dancing and sailing. 🙂

Hi Joy
I never got past the first interesting fact… you Belly Dance!
Having read that I quickly looked down the page for a few photos – what a disappointment, I didn’t find any! LOL
I think that I shall remember you as “a butterfly and glitter girl who sleeps in the moonbeams and basks in sun kisses” – sounds good to me.

Hi Jannie,
I forgot to mention that I lather on sunscreen every day throughout the day…
Farmer’s markets delight all of my senses.. Fresh, seasonal food just waiting to burst with delicious juiciness..mmm…and we also have aisles of prepared foods to eat–Greek foods, Indian foods, desserts…
Hi Keith,
Lol:) belly dancing is as fun and intriguing as everyone thinks it is…I *love* the way I may express myself through this form…
And I love how you shall remember me..thank you for that…because truly that is the essence of who I am..and I am glad to share it with all..May we all celebrate our unique essence!
Much peace,
Joy
